Peyton goes into the old record store in Tree Hill and finds it completely empty. She puts a letter at the door and walks out, devastated. As she gets back into the car, there is a for sale sign in the window of [[the comet]]. Brooke is trying to find out what the lady who is evaluating her is writing. She asks how long it will take for her to find out if she can adopt or not and the woman tells her yes. Brooke asks how she is doing and the woman doesn’t answer asking to talk about her past. In the meeting, Nathan is talking about his past and how it is his own fault and admits that he wakes up in the middle of the night and walks through the town past the school and still hears the echoes. As he tells this, Haley realises he never told her this and Nathan admits that he is ashamed that he is vulnerable. He admits that this is the 2nd most vulnerable situation he has ever been in, the first was when he took drugs for a high school basketball game and went to see Haley and when she forgave him and that is the moment he fell in love with her. Meanwhile, Andy is telling Lucas he is not broken and is similar to when he left Karen as it was the hardest things he had to do, but he knew there was someone who already had her heart and he would have loved her just to turn around and tell him that she wanted to be with him, but Lucas believes that will not work on Lindsey, but Andy says that it is that simple and he can fly him out to New York whenever he needs to go. Lucas says she will not talk to him, but Andy convinces him that he owes it both to himself and Lindsey to tell her how he feels. In their therapy meeting, Haley is admitting that the hardest part is not knowing what their marriage means to Nathan and whether he still wants her. Nathan says that she does, but Haley tells him that Carrie comes to mind. She asks him why he didn’t say anything about the flirting, and asks if he liked it and Nathan admits he possibly did as she doesn’t look at him like that anymore and Nathan tells her he knows he isn’t worthy of it, but he misses it. The psychiatrist then cuts in asking when he last felt accomplishment and Nathan tells her it was when he started playing basketball. She then tells him that it may be linked to his father as all the praise from him stopped this year until Carrie came into the picture and the feelings may have been transferred. As Haley is asks if she needs to swim naked for her husband, Nathan tells her it is not her fault and then psychiatrist suggests it, swimming naked together as they are only 22. She asks when the last time they did something fun and young and foolish together, and Haley says they don’t have time to be young, but the psychiatrist says everyone gets to be young.

Synopsis

513 jamie thanks dan

Jamie thanks Dan for saving him

Dan walks outside to go home as Lucas runs out to meet him. Furious, he hits him across the face and Dan retaliates by hitting him back. Nathan then runs out and hits Dan against his car and the two of them begin to hit him, until Jamie runs out telling them to leave him alone. He goes up to his grandpa and Dan tells him he has to go and to go back to his mom. Jamie goes back, but not before thanking Dan for saving him from Carrie.

4 Weeks Later

513 h n n wit psychiatrist

Haley and Nathan talk to a psychiatrist

Haley is admitting she still finds it hard to let Jamie out of her sight and still thinks it is right for her to still be overprotective. The psychiatrist in which she is talking to asks her if she was meant to say overprotective. She then asks how things have been since Nathan moved home, and they both admit that it has gotten a lot better. The psychiatrist then asks who they are individually, not as a couple, and Haley asks if she means her hobbies, but the psychiatrist asks who she is as a person. Meanwhile, Brooke is introducing herself to someone who can decide whether she is able to adopt or not. She tells the woman about herself, her job, her life, and messes up the interview when talking about her sex life and whether she drinks. The conversation then moves onto her roommate and Brooke tells the woman she is not so stable as the boy she loves, Lucas, is currently AWOL and then realising she is creating a bad picture, offers to get her to move out. Peyton is explaining to someone how her mom used to sing to her and that is why she found an interest in music. But now she is gone, as is Mia, as is Lucas and now there is just silence. Meanwhile, Andy joins Lucas looking out at the water and tells him to let it go, but Lucas tells him he lost it all. Andy still believes he can get it back, and it is time for him to go back to his life rather than spend another 4 weeks at sea with them and it all starts with a simple question, ‘what do you want?’ Nathan tells the psychiatrist that he wants his family back and to become a better man and he will do for Haley and Jamie. Haley tells her that she wants to believe in Nathan and the good in people as well as her son being safe and great. Brooke says she wants a family and to give a child what they would originally not be able to get. Peyton says she wants to believe in music again and that she wants Lucas as he says he wants Lindsey back and Andy tells him good as there is a way to get her back.

Peyton goes into the old record store in Tree Hill and finds it completely empty. She puts a letter at the door and walks out, devastated. She asks when the last time they did something fun and young and foolish together, and Haley says they don’t have time to be young, but the psychiatrist says everyone gets to be young.

Max goes to see Peyton

A person comes in looking to buy Peyton’s car. She turns round and finds it to be Max, the record shop owner, they hug happily after not seeing each other in over 4 years. Dan is being given his instructions that he has to abide by, telling him he is not allowed to leave the state in the first six months of release and must get a job. He then passes a picture of Jamie to his case manager, but he has no time for him and gives him the money he earned whilst working in prison, but Dan offers it all to him for small talk. He begins to talk about Jamie again as he remembers seeing Jamie at school. He tells Dan that he can’t go outside the fence and asks if he really went to jail for not cleaning his room, but Dan tells him no but the person next to him got 10 years for not eating his peas. Jamie tells him that he doesn’t believe him and also that Lucas has left, but Dan says he will be back soon. He also tells him that Nathan has moved back in, but sleeps on the couch and then they say they miss each other. Dan then leaves telling Jamie that his visits are their little secret. In the Scott’s therapy session, the psychiatrist tells them she finds it interesting that when they describe themselves, they describe themselves as spouses, parents, siblings and friends and not a basketball player, in Nathan’s case. But Nathan tells her he is no longer a player and as she asks why he can’t bounce back from his accident and also asks why Haley cannot record, she tells them that maybe they aren’t the same people who fell in love because neither of them are trying. Brooke is asked why she is wants to adopt and tells the woman to provide a safe environment and a caring one, the woman asks if she had one and she tells her no. This leads on to her considering marriage only if the right person came along and the woman asks if she hasn’t yet, listing a number of people she has been attached to during her life, leading Brooke to worry a little.

513 b tries to convince adoption woman

Brooke finds out Victoria has been talking to the adoption agency

Peyton asks Max why he closed the record store, and he tells her that no one came to his store as everyone buys online. As Peyton tells him his store meant more than a record store to her and that it influenced her record label, Max asks if she thinks of Lucas much and she reveals she does, everyday. Back at Brooke’s the woman accuses her of still being in love with Lucas as because he nearly married someone else, Peyton became a mess and she went to find love elsewhere, by adopting. Brooke is thrown into shock and tells the woman she is being cynical and she is wrong. Brooke tells her she was thinking about having a child before she moved back to Tree Hill so it has nothing to do with Lucas Scott. The woman moves on to begin asking about high school and how she was arrested and ran a political party based on drugs and partying. Brooke assures her she would never use drugs and never let her child, the woman tells her she knows the Rachel had been staying in her house lately too. Brooke tells her that it has nothing to do with that and then realises that the woman has been speaking to Victoria. Andy asks if Lucas has spoken to Peyton and he says he has not. He asks about the comet and as Andy finds out Peyton drives a comet, he asks if he knows what car Lindsey drives, and Lucas tells him that is not fair. Brooke is saying the same to the adoption agency woman as she just fired her mom, and the woman tells her that she knows and she must be busy, but Brooke denies it just as her phone rings. The woman tells her that her phone has rang 17 times since she arrived. She tells Brooke that they ask parents to take 6 month off when getting a new child and that it is easier with two parents, but Brooke tells her that the best people she knows come from single parent households. Brooke is then forced to tell her that she is from a no-parent household and that gives her the idea of the parent she will not become. Meanwhile, Haley argues that she will not be an absentee parent but the psychiatrist tells her that might be the problem. She tells them they should be selfish sometimes and will draw them back together and stop them resenting each other. Nathan tells her that he does not resent his family and Haley agrees. The woman asks what it was like to be performing and Haley tells her that she wasn’t proud of it as Nathan was hurting, but she loved it. Nathan agrees that it was his best moments and they both agree that they could take on those dreams. Peyton tells Max she is disappointed in herself and tells him that she wishes she never said to Lucas to marry Lindsey as she felt awful when they almost did. Peyton tells him that she sits in her office and remembers what they used to be and tries so hard to make him happy by not being happy herself.

513 jam presents chest at show and tell

Jamie present Chester as his best friend

Jamie is telling his class his best friends are Brooke, Skills and Chester the rabbit. Dan is in his meeting as he tells him that he cares about family and shows him a scar on his knuckle from pretending to kill Daunte Jones. But then the officer tells him that he was arrested for killing his brother and Dan declares he has changed. The officer gives him the money back but Dan says to give it to charity. Lily with her brother Lucas.

Lily goes to see Lucas and tells him that she had a dream about her dad and he said Lucas was going to be ok. Peyton tells Max she knows it is all going to be okay, but she has days where they are too messy. Max tells her that she changed Mia’s life and that is why she came home and also to change her own life and to have patience for it to happen. Max tells her to go drive with her music on to try and find something that heals her broken heart. The psychiatrist rounds up the session and asks them to tell her things they love about each other. Haley lists the things she likes and then the beeper goes off for the end of the session without Nathan telling her. They leave as the psychiatrist tells them they are going to be okay.

Nathan and Haley make up

Lindsey walks in her office and finds Lucas waiting for her, he explains where he has been and tells her he is not going to publish ‘The Comet,’ but Lindsey says he has to as it is too good not to. Lucas tells her he misses her and loves and it has not been the same since she left. Lindsey then tells him she loves him too, but they cannot be together, so Lucas tells her that he will only publish the book if she edits it. Lindsey agrees to it as she believes in him and the book but they can’t be together, and Lucas says they will be as one day she will realize how much she wants him too and he will be waiting. Peyton takes her for sale down off her car and drives away with her music on. Brooke picks Jamie up from school and as they hug, Brooke cries with the desire to have her own child like him as Dan watches in the distant. Haley and Nathan get home and he tells her that Jamie should sleep in the same bed as him or in his own room rather than always with Haley, and then tells her how gracious and forgiving she is. Haley then tells him he can stop in the same bed as her if he wants. Overwhelmed, Nathan kisses his wife. Lucas gets home to an empty room as Lindsey reads his novel to edit. Peyton is driving and stops as she remembers the first night she saw Lucas when she nearly ran him over in her car. Peyton smiles as she remembers the memories as Brooke chases Jamie around her house. Haley is playing piano as Nathan plays with his basketball next to her. They smile at each other, knowing everything is going to be okay.

Memorable Quotes

”My mom used to sing to me, I don’t think I’ve ever really told anybody that before. It was like out little secret, but every night, she’d come in and she’d tuck me in and she’d sing me something like lullabies or album rock stuff. And then, I don’t know, after she was gone, I remember lying in bed for the first time and just feeling silence, you know? And then realizing that for the rest of my life it was gone. All her songs were gone and her voice, and the way it used to soothe me, just all of it. So I guess I tried to find new songs to fill that quiet but none of them really have. Now she’s gone, and Mia’s gone, and Luke is gone. There’s just silence. There’s just silence.
Peyton Sawyer

”And that all starts with a simple question, what do you want?”
”I want my family back and I want Haley to trust me again. I want her to look at me the way she used to and see a better man than maybe I’ll ever be. And then I wanna be that man. And I will be, for her and for Jamie”
”I want to believe in Nathan again and I want to believe in the goodness of people. And, I want my son to be safe and I want him to be great, and I want that greatness to be seen and appreciated. That’s what I want.”
”I want to have a family. I want to use my success to help a child who maybe never really had a chance at all. I want to be a mom and I’m ready to be one, I believe that”
”I want to believe in it all again, music and art, fate and love and I want to believe that I’ve made the right choices and that I’m on the right path, and there’s still time to fix the mistakes I’ve made. And I guess hope and I want Lucas”
”I want Lindsey. I want her to be my wife and I just wanna go back, you know. I want to go back to a month ago when we were happy and life had meaning and purpose and direction. That’s what I want”
Nathan Scott, Haley James Scott, Brooke Davis, Peyton Sawyer and Lucas Scott answer Andy Hargrove’s question as to what they want.

”Maybe you aren’t the people you fell in love with, because neither of you is trying to be the people you fell in love with”
The psychiatrist tells Nathan Scott and Haley James Scott

”Sometimes all a child needs to succeed is love. Love from a parent who can provide a stable and caring environment, and I can do that”
”And was your home environment safe and caring?”
”No”
Brooke Davis as she applies for adoption

”I’m from a no-parent household. My father cared a lot more about his golf score than he ever did about me, and my mom went heavy on the Scotch and Prada. The good news is that thanks to them, I know exactly what kind of parent I won’t be”
Brooke Davis

”His heart is breaking right now, and I come in here and I sit in silence and hear the echoes of who we used to be. And so, I wish for patience and grace, and the strength to just let him be happy. And mostly, I pray for the strength to not make his life worse cause of what I want. That’s the toughest part, letting go, you know. That’s the part of grace that really sucks”
Peyton Sawyer about Lucas Scott

”I’m sorry we can’t help you”
”You’re not sorry, but you should be. Do you know what my mother said to me when I told her I wanted to start a company? She said ‘your chances are one in a million,’ and I said, ‘maybe I’m that one’ and she said ‘you’re not.’ And she was wrong, and whatever she thought she saw in me was wrong because I am one in a million, and there is a child out there who has something so special inside of them, but whose life is miserable because they think that nobody wants them. And I could be a great mother to that child, no matter their age, or race, or sex. I could help them find what makes them special and if you can’t see that, then you’re wrong, just like my mother. Now why don’t you go ahead and write that down?”
Brooke Davis

”I love that he’s here with me every week, without fail. And I love that he holds himself accountable for his mistakes, and I love that he’s so protective over me and Jamie. And I love that shirt that he’s wearing and maybe the way he wears it”
Haley James Scott on what she loves about Nathan Scott

”I’ll publish the book, if you edit it. There’ll be long nights, heated arguments. It’ll be like we’re married”
Lucas Scott saying the same to Lindsey Strauss as she did to him

”You know sometimes I find your goodness staggering. I didn’t get a chance to tell you in the session, but your kindness is overwhelming, Haley. You saved my life. I haven’t said it lately, you’re also sexy as hell”
Nathan Scott tells Haley James Scott what he loves about her

Voice-over

”Make a wish, place it in your heart. Anything you want, everything you want...Do you have it? Good. Now believe it can come true. You never know where the next miracle’s gonna come from, the next smile. The next wish come true...But if you believe that it’s right around the corner, and you open your heart and mind to the possibility of it, to the certainty of it...You just might get the thing you’re wishing for...The world is full of magic, you just have to believe in it. So make your wish. Do you have it?...Good, now believe in it., with all your heart”
Peyton Sawyer, Lucas Scott, Brooke Davis, Nathan Scott, and Haley James Scott (closing voice-over)
