Details: Lucas fell in love with Peyton the moment he first saw her in the 8th grade. He was very jealous when she began dating his half-brother and rival Nathan Scott during high school. They did not speak to each other until her car broke down at the beginning of their junior year and he towed it back to town. He immediately showed her nothing but kindness and respect and encouraged her dreams. This led her to break off her relationship with Nathan, realizing she deserved far better and becoming more and more interested in him. Their feelings for each other kept growing stronger and stronger until they shared their first kiss, but when Lucas made it clear how deep his feeling for her were, she became uncomfortable because she was scared to completely open up to him and left. By the time she realized she made a mistake and admitted she felt the same way as him, he had already got involved with Brooke. However, after some time the two weren't able to hold their feelings back anymore and in a moment of weakness they gave into them, becoming secret lovers behind Brooke's back (though they didn't sleep together), but Peyton tearfully ended things with Lucas despite loving him out of guilt for betraying Brooke. Then, they painfully became estranged for some time because of this mess, but fortunately they soon mended their friendship and then they spent their entire summer following junior year together: they hung out, helped each other through their problems and shared mutual secrets and intimate things, resulting in their bond becoming stronger than it had ever been. Despite this, at the beginning of senior year Lucas began dating Brooke again. After Peyton started realizing her feelings for him were resurfacing, she was wounded in her leg during the school shooting and Lucas risked his life to carry her to safety: thinking she couldn't make it, Peyton told him she loved him and they shared a brief but meaningful kiss. Fortunately, Lucas was able to save her and then, when she properly recovered, they talked about the kiss, both agreeing to pretend it meant nothing not to hurt Brooke, but soon after Peyton realized she was still in love with him. When Lucas and Brooke's relationship ended for good, Peyton was very supportive to him as always and helped him to move on. Lucas then saved Peyton's life again when a guy claiming to be her brother turned out to be a stalker: Peyton was distraught and he again was there to help her to overcome the trauma. Then, when Lucas told her it was over for good between him and Brooke after going to one last date together, which made them ultimately understand they were not the right person for each other and not meant to be, Peyton finally found the courage to declare her love to him: Lucas was caught totally off guard and left speechless, so he spent a little time examining his feelings for her. At the State Championship, he finally realized Peyton was the one for him all along and declared his love to her with his iconic “It’s you” speech, after which they shared a long-awaited kiss in the middle of the court. They immediately began a committed relationship for the first time, both finding themselves happier than they've ever been and madly in love with each other. After graduation, she moved to L.A. to pursue a career in music while he went to college with Nathan and Haley to help them with Jamie. Long distance made things hard, so about one year after graduation he paid her a surprise visit and proposed, but she was not ready for marriage yet and wanted to wait: he took this as a rejection and walked away, ending their relationship. The two did not see each other for about three years (during which he became a published author) until she suddenly returned to Tree Hill to win him back because she was still in love with him. It was uncomfortable for him as he had begun dating his book editor Lindsay Strauss, but it became increasingly obvious that he was still in love with Peyton too: despite this, he kept being in deep denial because of his fear to get another rejection and went way too far proposing to Lindsey. Though jealous and devastated, Peyton tried to be supportive because she wanted him to be happy, with or without her, but, after reading his new book, The Comet, and understanding it was about his everlasting love for Peyton, Lindsey realized Lucas would always be in love with Peyton and left him at the altar. After having a difficult time struggling to get over this mess, Lucas finally cleared his mind once and for all and reunited with Peyton. They immediately moved in together in his home and finally began their new adult life together while starting to plan their wedding. Then, they were overjoyed when Peyton discovered she was pregnant with their first child, but after some months they discovered she had a dangerous condition which threatened her life and the life of the baby: despite this, they decided to risk it. While the pregnancy was approaching its end, the two finally got married by the lake where they first spoke. That night, at home, Lucas found Peyton in a pool of blood because of her disease and rushed her to the hospital: fortunately, both she and their baby, whom they eventually called Sawyer, survived. Then, the new family moved away from Tree Hill for good to start a new life, finally living happily ever after.
