Sometime after the school shooting, Marcus dropped out of high school and became a full-time mechanic. In his final appearance, he went to examine Peyton Sawyer's car after it had broken down on the side of the road as she was driving back into town from Savannah. While he offered to let her ride back with him, she had already called Nathan to pick her up. Speaking with Nathan about what had transpired the day of the shooting, Marcus revealed he had a difficult time getting past it, stating that he found it hard to walk through the school halls without thinking about what had happened.("Over the Hills and Far Away")
