"The Drink We Drank Last Night" is the twelfth episode and mid-season premiere of the eighth season of One Tree Hill and the 164th produced of the series. It was broadcast on January 25, 2011. After a wild night out on the town for her bachelorette party, Brooke and the girls try to piece together the night before while looking for Brooke's missing engagement ring and dealing with the aftermath the day of Brooke and Julian's rehearsal. The girls at the bachelorette party take something from Nathan's professor prompting Nathan to confront him.

Plot[]

This episode beings the morning after Brooke's bachelorette party. Brooke is rinsing her mouth in the sink, clearly hungover. She hears Sylvia say something and turns to find her in the bathtub, passed out. The episode then rewinds, 12 hours earlier, to Julian and Brooke talking about both their bachelor and bachelorette parties. Brooke warns him about drinking too much that might prompt him to do something stupid. She tells him how Haley is planning on taking her to the spa. Nathan tells Haley that it is nice of her to plan Brooke's bachelorette party to which Haley says how much Brooke deserves it. Nathan tells Haley how he has to read the entire book to be prepared for Kellerman's class. Haley tells him to just read the book and forget about Kellerman. Brooke, Haley, and Quinn are walking up to the spa when Haley asks to leave early to help Nathan study. Haley says that Brooke will still have fun while she's gone because she will have Quinn, Millie, and Alex. Brooke then gets upset about Alex being invited and say she only invited Alex to Thanksgiving because she was being civil for Julian. Haley says she didn't think they were in high school anymore and Brooke responds saying that Alex will always be the girl who got naked in front of her boyfriend. Haley says she can un-invite her but Alex got them the spa suite. Brooke, Haley, and Quinn walk into the spa with Alex welcoming them in and calling Brooke the guest of honor with Millie by her side and a bunch of men massagists waiting. Brooke tells Haley that she will be civil with Alex. All of the girls are getting a massage and being served smoothies while Haley reads off to the side. In the middle of Brooke's massage, Millie gives Brooke a present with a bunch of party things including a veil, party necklaces, tiaras, feathered scarfs and so on. Haley then makes a toast for Brooke's last night of freedom before she gets married.

Back to the present, the girl's suite is a mess and shows Quinn passed out on the couch with red lipstick speared across her face and a dog collar on her neck. Alex and Mille are passed out on the floor when Haley walks in with coffee and donuts for breakfast. All of the girls slowly wake up in pain and Alex says she feels fine with a black eye. Quinn is talking funny and has something in her mouth, Haley sees it and it shows Quinn with a pierced tongue. Quinn asks her to take it out when they hear Brooke asking Sylvia, her future mother-in-law, why she is at Brooke's bachelorette party. Brooke starts to wash her hands when she finds a massive and fake diamond ring on her finger. Brooke begins to freak out since her real engagement ring is missing and frantically searches the suite. Brooke can't find her ring and says how she can't remember anything from the night before. The girls start icing their injuries and talking about their pain and their mouth being on fire when Brooke tells them not to move because she can't find her engagement ring when a dog on a mini skateboard skates across the room. Haley says they need to retrace their steps and asks what they all did. Brooke says she doesn't remember anything and doesn't even remember Sylvia joining them. Sylvia says that she was dropping off a gift and they all convinced her to stay. The girls think that the drinks they were being served last night had to have something in it. Alex makes a call to find out what was in the drinks the spa was serving them. Quinn finds raw meat in her purse and Haley tells everyone to check their purse. Sylvia says she lost her phone when Julian calls Brooke and Sylvia takes the phone telling her she will buy them time. Sylvia answers and Julian immediately says something dirty to which Sylvia tells him it's his mom and Julian asks why she is still there. Julian asks why Brooke didn't answer and if she is okay and Sylvia says she is so happy while Brooke is freaking out. Julian asks to talk to her and Sylvia says it is bad luck to talk to her before the dress rehearsal. Sylvia says they are busy and that Brooke will "give him a ring later" and laughs looking at Brooke. The girls are looking through their purses to find Brooke's ring when Alex comes in with the truth about the drinks they all had. Alex says that the drinks are very good for you unless you mix them with alcohol. Haley finds a receipt from a tattoo parlor with a tongue piercing purchase and a tattoo. Everyone begins to check their skin for a tattoo when Brooke finds writing on her in the form of chocolate. Then Quinn finds the tattoo which ends up being on Millie's back. Millie's tattoo is a pair of boots and questions why she got that tattoo and Alex says that "Boots" is a tattoo artist. Millie, Alex and Quinn all leave Sylvia, Brooke, and Haley to go to the tattoo parlor. Sylvia grabs a phone and they find out it's Dave Navarro's and realize that Sylvia is wearing a t-shirt from his concert in Tree Hill the night before.

At the tattoo parlor, Millie is looking for the artist, Stache, who did her tattoo. When she finds him he calls her "Boots" and that he will talk with her when he is done with a client. Millie says that she is embarrassed and Alex says that no one will ever ask why she got it because no one asked why she got a tattoo of "believe" written in cursive on her arm. Quinn asks why Alex got the tattoo and she says she got it for reassurance after her suicide attempt in "You Know I Love You, Don't You". Alex says she uses it as a reminder that she failed and if she hadn't, she would have missed out on everything going on in her life now. Mille is featured in the tattoo parlor's book with Dave Navarro right after her. Brooke, Sylvia, and Haley all head to the theater Dave Navarro performed at. Haley goes to check the box office for Brooke's ring while Sylvia and Brooke talk. Sylvia says how she used to go to concerts all the time with Melissa growing up. Sylvia then starts to talk about her and Melissa's experiences at concerts and says she is sure Brooke and Haley have some as well. Brooke says how her and Haley have good memories but her concert stories involved her and her best friend, Peyton Sawyer. Sylvia asks Peyton if she is coming to the wedding and Brooke says that she isn't. Brooke asks her not to tell Haley because she doesn't want Haley to be mad to which Sylvia says that Melissa didn't come to hers, with Paul Norris, either. Sylvia says how she didn't really like Peyton and says that Paul liked her. Haley comes back without finding the ring but found out that the concert was cancelled because Dave Navarro went missing and was riding a bull with some girls at a bachelorette party. Sylvia and Brooke look at each other and memories start to flash back with all of the girls taking turns riding on a bull.

The tattoo artist, Stache, asks Alex where she got her black eye and Alex responds asking why Millie got the tattoo. Stache says that Millie got it because it is her nickname and then memories start to flash back of a bunch of guys chanting Millie's nickname as she gets her tattoo and then Alex is piercing Quinn's tongue. The tattoo artist also reveals that they got tattoos with frat guys. Quinn, Alex, and Millie all head to the fraternity house and they all walk up and tell them how fun they were. Quinn is shocked to hear that they know who they are and the guys are also shocked they don't remember. Memories flash back once again of the girls partying and dancing in the fraternity house. It also shows the moment when the ring falls off Brooke's hand but Alex finds it and gives it back to her. Millie asks the guys why they nicknamed her "Boots" while Alex and Quinn look through the lost and found. The guys say it is how Millie introduced herself and Millie sees a missing flyer for the dog that was in their suite in the morning. Haley and Brooke are looking for Brooke's ring in the bar around the bull riding machine while Sylvia asks for a drink. The bartender suggests she has the boot again which is a drink of 15 different types of alcohol in a cowboy boot. Memories flash back of Millie drinking a cowboy boot with all the girls cheering her on. Brooke is still looking around the bar for her ring when Haley tells her it's not there and that they should go. Sylvia says that the music is terrible in the bar and wants to leave immediately when Brooke gets a call from Sylvia. Sylvia doesn't have her phone though so Sylvia takes the phone and sees that "Smother-in-law" is calling Brooke. Sylvia answers it and says that they found her phone at the fire station. Millie, Quinn, and Alex picked up the dog and Millie is in disbelief that they stole a dog. Alex says they don't know that for sure as they arrive at the address from the flyer. When they arrive they find a big house that was teepeed. Outside of the house a man is talking to a police officer with the girls watching in the distance, the man turns around and it turns out to be August Kellerman.

Quinn pieces it together and remembers that it is Nathan's professor when memories flash back of Millie, Sylvia, Quinn, Brooke, and Alex throwing toilet paper and eggs at Kellerman's house and they stole his dog while driving away in an ice cream truck. The girls drive away from Kellerman's house unnoticed laughing about what they did. Alex then asks Quinn what is was like being shot and Quinn tells her how almost dying sucks. Alex tells her she reminds herself when she looks at her scars that she experienced a moment of weakness but that Quinn should own her scars as they are a moment of strength. Sylvia gets her phone at the fire station and starts showing Brooke and Haley baby pictures of Julian but then finds pictures of the girls from the night before. Sylvia, Brooke, and Haley go to a restaurant where the girls took a picture at when Sylvia starts talking about LA and how Brooke should move there with Julian. Brooke says how much she loves Tree Hill. The waitress notices Sylvia and says she will be back will free wings for her. Turns out, Sylvia won a hot wing contest from the night before against firemen and is the champion on the wall of "flame". The waitress then asks Brooke how it went with the guy she was making out with. Brooke tells her that that can't be true because she is engaged and the waitress says she didn't think it was true because of the toy ring she wore as Brooke, Haley, and Sylvia sit in shock. Quinn, Alex, and Millie meet them at the restaurant and tell them how they stole Nathan's professor's dog. Brooke asks if anyone found her ring and no one responds and she goes on to say that Julian won't want to marry her anyway considering she made out with someone the night before. Brooke drops her toy ring on the floor and leaves when the dog picks it up and swallows it whole. Sylvia and Brooke are walking through Tree Hill together when Sylvia thanks Brooke for last night. Brooke asks Sylvia what she is going to do and Sylvia tells her to be honest with Julian since he is so forgiving. Brooke says how she screwed things up with the most perfect guy for her when Sylvia looks behind her asking if her store is closed. Brooke turns around to find Dave Navarro fixing a mannequin in Brooke's old store. Sylvia and Brooke go into the store to find the place the place trashed and Dave Navarro tells Brooke she locked him in the store and points out that Sylvia is wearing his shirt. He then asks where the chick with the black eye went because he wants to apologize to her about it. Dave is about to leave and tells Brooke that she was amazing and can't remember the time he went through so many condoms in one night.

Alex, Quinn, and Millie are in the park and gave the dog an entire box of laxatives. Millie and Alex start to dig through to find the toy ring and hopefully Brooke's ring. Haley tells Millie how she drank out of the cowboy boot and Alex starts laughing. At the store, Sylvia is trying to clean up when Brooke states how she was scared Julian would want to call of the wedding because she kissed someone and says how he will definitely call it off now. Sylvia tells her it's going to be okay and that she has made a lot of mistakes in her life but she managed to get past them all. Sylvia says that she knows a way Brooke can get through it and that is by not telling Julian. Brooke talks about marriage and how Julian deserves the truth. Sylvia looks through a bucket and finds water balloon condoms and flashbacks of all the girls having a water balloon fight with Dave Navarro and with condoms as the balloons on top of the roof of the store. This memory shows Alex making fun of Mia and Quinn making fun of herself when she got shot. Alex then gets hit in the eye with a condom water balloon thrown by Dave Navarro. Sylvia and Brooke are on the roof laughing about the mess they made but also relieved Brooke didn't sleep with anyone. Brooke then says how it still doesn't change the fact that she kissed someone. Sylvia asks if she has ever forgiven someone for a kiss and Brooke says that she forgave Lucas Scott when he kissed Peyton Sawyer when Brooke and Lucas were dating in "Crash Course in Polite Conversation" along with several times after in season 1 and in "With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept" but she never forgot it. Sylvia then asks if everyone has dated Lucas and Brooke responds telling her it was high school. Sylvia talks about small towns again and mentions that it is another reason why Julian should move to LA. Sylvia remembers a conversation from the night before when Brooke asked Sylvia if she had been trying to convince Julian to move back and Sylvia says how his life is there. Brooke asks about herself and Sylvia says that it is a difficult response for a girl like Brooke. Brooke questions it and Sylvia says that she is selfish. Brooke responds telling Sylvia that she smothers Julian and tried to bully her way into the wedding. Brooke and Sylvia begin arguing and Brooke tells her that she treats Julian like a child and if she would stop drinking, she would know that and Sylvia calls her a brat. Brooke says that it is no wonder that Julian moved away from LA and Sylvia responds saying that Julian came to live with a girl who can't even give him a family. In present day with both Brooke and Sylvia remembering that argument Brooke says how she would give anything to give Julian a family and Sylvia leaves in tears.

At the Scott residence, Haley gets home and Nathan asks how drunk and bad the girls' night was. Nathan asks what the craziest thing they did was and Haley tells him how the girls met Kellerman and brought the dog home. Kellerman's dog comes riding in on a skateboard. Nathan goes to Kellerman's house to return his dog. Nathan is leaving and Kellerman tells him he could have Nathan arrested for theft and Nathan says how they have a contract and shows him the flyer that asks someone to return his dog and no questions will be asked. Nathan then quotes Kellerman's textbook that he has been reading and tells him he should just say thank you. Brooke gets home to find Julian napping on the couch. Julian wakes up and asks her how the party was and how bonding with his mom went. Brooke tells Julian how her and Sylvia got into a fight and Julian says it was just the alcohol talking. Brooke says how the alcohol said mean things and Julian says they will work it out at the rehearsal dinner. Brooke says that they might not have a rehearsal dinner and tells Julian she did something two horrible things. Brooke says that she lost her engagement ring and that she kissed some guy and promises it won't happen again and that she doesn't remember who it was. Julian says he does and a flashback of Julian crashing her bachelorette party plays. Brooke jumps into his arms and kisses him. Brooke then tells Julian how much she loves him as she was looking at her engagement ring. Brooke drops it and Julian tells her how he is going to hold onto her ring. Brooke says how naked her hand feels without her ring and Julian takes off the fake toy ring from her necklace and puts it on Brooke's ring finger. After the memory fades, Julian pulls out Brooke's ring and Brooke tells him how they were looking everywhere for it. Julian puts it back on her finger and says it is where it belongs now. He then tells her to get ready for their rehearsal dinner so he can be closer to making Brooke his wife. Alex and Quinn are cleaning up their spa suite together and Alex says how much she loves the girls even though she has to invite herself. Alex says how she knew Brooke only let her stay because Alex got them the spa suite and Quinn says that that is true. Quinn then calls Alex a true friend of hers and starts helping Alex fix her black eye.

Julian is covering Brooke's eyes and leading her to the alter in the church they are going to get married in. He uncovers her eyes and she finds white roses, the ones Brooke wanted, as the flowers for their wedding when Haley walks up to meet them. Brooke asks Julian and Haley when they set all of it up and Haley says how her and Julian put it together the night of her bachelorette party. Brooke then tells Haley how Julian had the ring the whole time and Haley expresses so much relief. Brooke then mentions to Julian that it was how he his spent last night of freedom and says how he wanted to make their special day perfect. Brooke asks how they both knew about the flowers and set up and Haley says how she "forgot" to throw away Brooke's wedding planner and gave it to Sylvia. Haley tells Brooke how Sylvia payed for the whole thing and has been working nonstop ever since Haley gave Sylvia the wedding planner. Sylvia walks in adjusting the decorations and Brooke goes to talk to her. Brooke tells her how she can't believe Sylvia did this for her without Brooke knowing. Brooke asks Sylvia if she did it all for her and Sylvia says how she did it for the girl her son loves. Brooke apologizes to her about what she had said during their argument the night before and Sylvia says that she was right. Sylvia says she holds onto the past too much and forgets everything else around her, like Brooke. Sylvia says how she knows now why Julian loves Brooke so much and that she is also sorry. Brooke and Sylvia hug and forgive each other and Sylvia tells her to go find Haley for rehearsal. Brooke then asks Sylvia what happened with Melissa and Sylvia says how they are both still friends but Melissa moved away, started a family, and that they just drifted apart. Sylvia then tells her not to live in the past. Brooke goes to see Haley and tells her how Peyton's daughter, Sawyer, is sick. Haley is disappointed Peyton isn't coming to Brooke's wedding and apologizes to Brooke. Brooke says how she understands but misses Peyton a lot and starts tearing up. Haley asks if Brooke is okay and Brooke thanks Haley for what she did for her wedding and says how nobody has ever done something like it for her before. Brooke mentions Peyton's saying, "people always leave" and how she always used to say it and that when people left Peyton's life, Brooke was always there for her. Brooke then says how this year has been her hardest year of her life and says that it was her maid of honor who was always there for her, no matter what. Haley questions if it is her and Brooke asks her to be her maid of honor. Haley agrees and they both hug each other.
