Lucas And Peyton Talk

On her way home, Peyton passes the river court where Lucas is playing basketball. Peyton asks, as she did in the pilot, why he is playing basketball and Lucas tells her it is to see if he is any good. Lucas responds with the same question of why she does cheerleading. Peyton tells him that if she likes cheerleading she is just like every other stereotype or if she doesn't like it, she is a loser for it, it is a lose lose situation. Lucas gives Peyton a lift home and Peyton asks if he wants to come in. Lucas follows Peyton to the door, but Peyton says she wasn't inviting him, she was asking him if he wanted to. Arriving home, Peyton begins to draw some art to express her mood. When Nathan rings she hangs up and then blasts music down the phone. Eventually Peyton is forced to talk to him and tells him she is sick of all the argument and Nathan tells her lets just get over it and go back to us for tomorrow, Peyton reluctantly and unhappily agrees. When Lucas arrives home, his Mom soon learns that he is not happy with her for not going to the game

Nathan Insults Lucas

The following day, in class, Peyton is asked to describe Lucas in one word. Peyton uses the word 'Choke,' and when Lucas is asked to respond he uses 'lonely.' Nathan then butts into the activity and calls Lucas a 'bastard' sparking a fight between Lucas and Nathan. On the backlash of the fight, Whitey is forced to tell Lucas off. Meanwhile in the lockerroom, Nathan is telling Tim how he beat up Lucas and it was easy, even though this is not the case. Jake then adds to the conversation that it is probably not true, causing Nathan and Tim to gang up on Jake.

After school, in Peyton's room, her and Brooke are hanging out and Brooke tells Peyton that she is reliable even though she pretends to be such a 'bad ass.' Following this, Brooke asks if she has the new Beyonce CD, as typical cheerleaders would listen to, but Peyton simply looks at Brooke as her answer as she prefers different genres of music. We also find out how naive Brooke is who intends on going to college, joining a sorority and marrying a rich man when she leaves highschool, unless she gets fat.

Lucas' Card

During this, Dan pays Whitey a visit and tells him to let go of the past and to stop embarrasing 'Karen's son.' Whitey responds by saying he is not embarrasing her. We then see what each person has written on the cards. Peyton's card revealed 'truth' which is why she ripped down her art. Nathan's is 'revenge' and Lucas' is 'Answers' as he wants to know why he can't play basketball like he used to. Book

The Book Jake Gave To Lucas

Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not quite, the not yet, and the not at all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists. It is real. It is possible. It is yours.
